WORLD VS THE WORD BY LUKE KIBIKU
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone love someone the world, love for the father is not in Him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is for the world. And the world passes away but He who does the will of God abides forever.
John starts with a command that we should NOT love the world. The world here is not the physical world I.e Gods creations because God himself says It's very good (Gen 1:31) neither is it the human world i.e Mankind for God himself loves the world of men(John 3:16)
What then is the world we are told not to love? It's the world of SIN, EVIL And that world which the devil dominates.WHY THEN SHOULDNT WE LOVE THE WORLD WITH ALL THE PLEASURES IT BRINGS?
1.LOVE FOR THE WORLD PUSHES OUT LOVE FOR THE FATHER AND VICE VERSA.(vs15)
The love for the world are two incompatible loves-they can't co exist because they are from two different hearts. In James 4:4 the scripture puts it that friendship with the world is enmity with God.
Jesus also warns on trying to live a doubl life.(Matthew 6:24)
So choose today on where you stand. You can't love God while still addicted to pornography, you can't love God when alcohol and drunkenness is your portion, you can't love God when people only know you are a Christian when in school!
2.THE DEVIL ATTACKS KEY AREAS IN THE WORLD
a)lust of the flesh
b)lust of the eyes
c)pride of life
A case in point is Eve. See, Eve had the fruit (lust of the flesh) the fruit was pleasant to look upon (lust of the eyes) and the fruit would make wise (pride of life) and all these were her downfalls.
3.THE WORLD AND ITS LUSTS WILL PASS AWAY.
The second law of thermodynamics explains that everything natural decays. Our clothes wear out,vegetables go bad, there are earthquakes etc. This is the same with worldly pleasures.
Wouldn't you rather love something that doesn't change?
4.IF YOU DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER
It's not just about loving the father but also doing His will. Let's seek life!
DO NOT LOVE THE WORLD BUT RATHER LOVE THE WORD!
