RELATIONSHIPS...WITH OUR PARENTS
Ephesians 6:1-3 Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother which s the first commandment with a promise. So that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on earth.
We talk about relationships all the time and forget about our core relationship here on earth. Relationship with our parents. It’s clear that we can’t talk relationships with our parents and fail to mention Ephesians 6. A friend of mine was recently sharing with us about this scripture and she helped us see something that we have been overlooking and I thought I should share it with you guys as we start the year.
In our scripture, Id like us to note three things.
1. Obey your parents in the Lord
2.Honour your father and mother
3.It will go well with you.
It’s paramount to note that obedience comes before honour which comes before the promise. Meaning if you don’t obey even the simplest of instructions then you don’t honour your parents and that means the promise of going well with you won’t apply. Let no worldly glory or pleasure be it titles, power, fame, money, education or even looks deceive you to disregard your parents be it your worldly parents or spiritual parents despite their faults or whatever they do or did(and at this point I call for healing of aching hearts on all who are hurting from what their parents did). Note that this is the only commandment with a promise thus it would be good if you followed it. Do not block your blessings in this coming year by failing to obey such a simple principle.
