THE CIGARETTE 🚬 METAPHOR

Eph 1:17 For I always pray for you that He May grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the deep intimate knowledge of Him, by Having the eyes of our heart flooded with light..

I have just been watching ‘The fault in our stars’ for the hundredth time now and a new deeper revelation got to me(I believe that God is intentional in revealing Himself to us and we should only be keen to where He leads and what He says at a moment). In the first part of the movie, Augustus uses the analogy of the 🚬 cigarette 🚬 where he just puts it in his mouth for the sake without lighting it and when Hazel(who in simple terms has cancer that is related to her lungs and breathing) is furious and asks about it to which he says a profound statement which I would like to use for the basis of our teaching today. Gus says, ‘I put the cigar in between my teeth as a metaphor, to show that in as much as it is there, it actually won’t kill you unless you LIGHT IT.’

Now, I’d like you to see the magnitude of that statement in relation to our lives. There two factor points: putting of the cigarette in your mouth and the lighting of it. You may be going through situations or something in your life (the cigarette in between your teeth) but the fact that it is there it is not out to hurt you. When you actually light the cigar, then it would actually kill you. Lighting in this case would be to concentrate on your troubles, to dwell and wallow in self pity of what is happening here. What are you feeding? This reminds me of the analogy of the two foxes, if you didn’t read it click,https://reigndaily.blogspot.com/2017/07/analogy-of-fox.html, where whatever you concentrate on wins eventually.
Paul prays for the church in Ephesus that they would come to the full knowledge of the word of God. Lately, the Holy Spirit has been teaching me this concept on praying the word. Pst.Steven Furtick says, if you are in a dark situation and nothing seems to be making sense, trust what God is saying and run with it. For example, if you feel unworthy and a sinner, trust what God says, YOU ARE FORGIVEN. And that friends is my prayer to you, that we will grow continuously in the knowledge of the word of God to come to the reality of the greater promises that God has brought us to.
That we will feed the right energy and concentrate on what has been said rather than what you perceive as the final!

Go on. Go forth and light the right fuel in your life
Believe what He says rather than what you feel at the moment!
God bless!

  2. It's in the simplest of things that we find the greatest life lessons. As usual this is profound and curiously on time. God really is intentional in teaching and moulding us.
