FORGIVENESS

Luke 23:34 Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.

Recently, I was trying to imagine what was really going through Jesus' mind. This is a man beaten, bruised, humiliated, going to face death yet a Messiah, one with power over life and death; He could hav decided to just do anything say open the ground : I mean didn't he calm the sea, what can't he do?

But the son of the Almighty decided to forgive these people. This is one of the hardest aspects or acts a Christian can be called to do. Here's the thing, forgiving is not a call to compromise ones ego but it's clearly a call to put aside quarelling over trivial issues and stamp out all jealousy, envy and one of the greatest evils to man...pride.

Pride keeps more people separated from God and more relationships hitting rock bottom and locked in unforgiveness than any other sin. Continued forgiveness enables us to honestly face our pride, place our trust in God and walk in absolute humility.

At our verse, it is clear that forgiveness is not something we can do on our own strength. Jesus said  'Father...Forgive them'. When we have been hurt, unfairly treated or wounded...we always want to be understood And the second party to confess... but true forgiveness brings us back to ourselves where we confess the  ugliness of our heart, acknowledge need for confession and remove ourselves from our throne.
