FROM THE JUDGE AND THE OLD MAN

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come from your mouth but only what is helpful for building up others according to their needs.

(A friend of mine shared this video to me by Dhar and as always I cannot withhold that which can change you, it’s a hard principle that we all need to practice)

A story goes of an old man who didn’t like his neighbour. He started making up false stories of how his neighbour was a thief. Over time people started believing the older man and the neighbour started loosing friends. Eventually he even lost his business. So he decided to sue the old man for making up lies about him. In court, the old man said , “they were just words…no one was physically hurt.”

The judge told him to write everything he had said on a piece of paper and cut them into small pieces. He was to then throw them out of the window on his way home. They were to meet the following day for the verdict. The following day the judge told him, “ï have ruled in your favour but you have to do one thing first. Go out and find all the pieces of paper you threw.” The old man replied,”that’s not possible the wind blew them away” the judge then told him,” that’s the same thing. When you say hurtful things about someone, it works the same way. You will never be able to get the words back”

What i love about this story is that it applies in the same way. Words can tear someone to pieces, causing so much pain and suffering that those pieces can never be put together. In the same breathe, the words cant also be taken back just like those pieces that were blown by the wind. If we cant be masters of our words then we end up as slaves of it. Remember when your feet slips, you can always recover your balance but when your tongue slips, you cant recover your words.

God tells us in His Word that the tongue has incredible power. We can use our tongue to bring blessings and life or curses and death. The saying "sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me" is simply not true. Our tongues can be the most difficult thing to control and leave us with great regret if we use our words to hurt. Its a struggle to many if not all of us. But there is hope..Here are some verses to encourage us on taming the tongue.
PSALMS 52:2 ; JAMES 1:19 ; PROB 6:17 ; PROV 12:18.

God bless!
